Doodle |ˈdoōdl| verb [ intrans. ]
1 a rough drawing made absentmindedly.
2. to scribble or draw aimlessly

Sophie Barness grew up in the valley of Los Angeles and currently resides in the town of Davis, California. Coming from a long line of artists, she was able, at a young age, to appreciate the natural expressive powers the arts possess.

She defines her art as advanced doodling because her best work occurs when she is distracted and drawing aimlessly. The very nature of her work suggests that art is a distraction from reality, yet it is this distraction that actually allows her access to a deeper part of reality.

After many years of doodling on pages and pages of high school notebooks, Sophie decided to expand her doodling to canvas and experiement with Sharpie pen as her main medium. Realizing you can sharpie anything, she began experiementing on guitars, cups, mirrors, fabric, etc. Though she mainly stays on canvas she is open to suggestions and will personally draw on anything you give her.

Sophie's art tends to take on a life of its own and is open for many different interpretations. The biggest joy she receives is hearing how others interpret her work. Please take a look and enjoy! Comments and project suggestions are always welcomed. Prints are available!
